Our centerpiece program
Food + Friendship
Hunger and loneliness arrive together. We treat them together — meals delivered by a volunteer who stays, week after week, until they are simply a friend.
How it works
Volunteer → Meal → Visit → Friendship → Better health
Five links in one chain. Break any of them and a homebound neighbor is back to eating alone.
- 1
A volunteer signs up
Home cooks and kitchen volunteers prepare balanced, freezable meals in our commercial kitchen or their own.
- 2
Meals are packed for the week
Each client friend receives a week of meals, plus groceries and snacks as needed.
- 3
A visitor delivers them
The same volunteer, the same day each week — someone to expect and recognize.
- 4
They stay a while
Conversation, a check on how the week went, and a set of eyes on whether anything has changed.

Why it matters
The visit is not an extra
Roughly one in four adults reports experiencing social isolation, and the risk climbs sharply for homebound seniors, veterans living alone, and people managing chronic illness without nearby family.
Isolation is not only painful; it is measurable. It correlates with poorer nutrition, missed medications, delayed care, faster cognitive decline, and higher rates of hospitalization. A weekly visitor changes the trajectory: someone notices the fall, the empty pill organizer, the pneumonia cough.
That is why our volunteers are called visitors, not drivers, and why the people we serve are called client friends. Meals open the door. Friendship is what keeps it open.
